Our upholsterers each bring 15 to 30+ years of expertise, combining speed, precision, and deep technical knowledge across a wide range of furniture styles, from antiques and heirlooms to modern custom builds. This level of experience allows us to handle complex restorations and deliver consistent, high-quality results across every project.
Artisan Interiors is a family-built business led by siblings Anna and David Doan, alongside their father, Duke, a master upholsterer with over 30 years of experience.
Duke began his career in 1997, learning the trade from the ground up as an apprentice at Ted Berman Upholstery on Belvedere Avenue. His foundation in traditional techniques and disciplined craftsmanship continues to define the standard of work produced today.
Anna and David grew up around the trade and later returned to build and expand the business together. Today, they are leading Artisan Interiors into a multi-division interiors company with expanding showrooms and a long-term vision of integration across upholstery, custom furniture, and window treatments.
David was introduced to the craft at 14 through his father and has since completed over 1,000 consultations and overseen thousands of upholstery and custom furniture projects. With a background in mathematics and educational administration from the University of the Pacific graduate school, he brings a structured, systems-driven approach to operations and growth.
He leads the development of Heirloom & Hide and Artisan Drapery & Shade, oversees acquisitions, and drives the modernization of the business. Known for his strong eye for color and design, David draws inspiration from architecture, art, and history while guiding strategy, partnerships, and client experience.
Anna began learning the trade at 16, combining hands-on experience with a background in finance and accounting from Sacramento State and an MBA from the University of the Pacific. Under her leadership, Artisan Interiors has grown into one of the most well-equipped and professional upholstery workrooms in the Greater Sacramento region.
She has built a highly skilled team and expanded the company’s capabilities across reupholstery, custom furniture, and design.
