Our Process

The process for every project is slightly different depending on the furniture, materials, scope of work, and client needs. The following guides provide a general overview of our most common project workflows and are intended to help you understand what to expect throughout each stage. Individual projects may require additional or fewer steps, consultations, approvals, or scheduling based on their specific requirements.

Residential Upholstery Process

Full Service. High Touch. Craftsmanship Driven.

Phase 1

Project Initiation

Step 1: Submit Estimate Request

Clients submit photos, measurements, and project details through our online estimate form.

You will generally receive a response within 24 hours and no later than 48 hours during business days. If you do not hear from us within that timeframe, please check your spam folder or confirm that the email address provided was entered correctly.

Step 1: Submit Estimate Request

Step 2: Preliminary Review

We evaluate the submitted information to assess scope, feasibility, structural condition, and overall suitability for reupholstery.

If additional details are required, our team will contact you. If the project is not suitable for reupholstery or does not align with our services, we will communicate that clearly.

Step 2: Preliminary Review

Step 3: Preliminary Estimate & Consultation Scheduling

We provide a preliminary estimate range and schedule a design consultation.

Consultations are held in our Sacramento Design Showroom whenever possible. If visiting the showroom is not feasible, we can arrange an in-home or virtual consultation.

Step 3: Preliminary Estimate & Consultation Scheduling

We finalize:

  • Fabric or vinyl specification
  • Performance rating
  • Cushion upgrades if applicable
  • Compliance standards
Step 2: On Site Assessment & Material Specification

Step 3: Structured Proposal & Execution Plan

Based on site conditions and operational constraints, we determine:

  • Whether pieces can be removed simultaneously
  • Whether phased batching is required
  • Estimated turnaround time per batch
  • Pickup, delivery, uninstallation, and reinstallation logistics

A formal proposal and projected production timeline are issued.

Step 3: Structured Proposal & Execution Plan

Step 4: Deposit Authorization & Material Ordering

Upon approval of the proposal, a deposit is required to secure production scheduling and authorize material ordering.

No materials are ordered, and no production slots are reserved until the deposit is received.

Step 4: Deposit Authorization & Material Ordering

Phase 2

Production Strategy & Controlled Execution

Step 5: Prototype or Batch Pattern Development

For projects involving custom builds or large quantities of identical pieces, we implement a controlled pre-production stage.

If necessary, a prototype unit is completed for review and approval prior to full production.

For high-volume projects, a small initial batch may be produced to:

  • Finalize pattern templates
  • Confirm seam alignment and fit
  • Pre-cut fabric covers
  • Pre-cut foam and padding components

This preparation allows full-scale production to move efficiently once approved.

Step 5: Prototype or Batch Pattern Development

Step 6: Scheduled Pickup & Uninstallation

Furniture is removed according to agreed scheduling windows to minimize disruption to business operations.

Commercial projects typically require coordinated pickup, delivery, uinstallation, and reinstallation.

Step 6: Scheduled Pickup & Uninstallation

Step 7: Structural Reinforcement & Rebuild

Each piece undergoes internal evaluation and reinforcement as required:

  • Webbing reinforcement
  • Spring stabilization
  • Foam replacement or performance upgrades
  • Frame reinforcement

If wood restoration or refinishing is required, frames are coordinated with Sacramento Furniture Restoration prior to final upholstery.

Step 7: Structural Reinforcement & Rebuild

Step 8: Fabrication & Upholstery

Materials are cut and applied using production methods designed for consistency across multiple units.

With patterns, covers, and foam components prepared during the pre-production phase, full-scale upholstery proceeds with improved efficiency and reduced turnaround time.

Step 8: Fabrication & Upholstery

Phase 3

Quality Control, Payment & Installation

Step 10: Pre Installation Payment Requirement

Step 11: Coordinated Delivery & Reinstallation

Furniture is returned and reinstalled according to the agreed phasing schedule and operational windows.

Step 11: Coordinated Delivery & Reinstallation

Step 12: Final Payment & Project Closeout

The remaining balance is due upon completion of installation in accordance with the agreed commercial terms.

Step 12: Final Payment & Project Closeout

Upholstery Repair Process

Targeted. Structured. Condition Based. Repair projects follow a defined evaluation and authorization process to determine feasibility, fabric matching options, and structural integrity.

Phase 1

Evaluation & Authorization

Step 1: Submit Repair Request

Clients submit:

  • A short video providing a full 360 degree view of the furniture piece
  • Clear photos of the damaged area
  • A description of the specific repair issue

Video submission allows us to assess condition, structural integrity, and overall suitability for repair before scheduling.

Step 1: Submit Repair Request

Step 2: Repair Assessment

We evaluate:

  • Type and extent of damage
  • Structural stability
  • Fabric condition and availability
  • Overall viability of repair versus reupholstery

If the piece is not suitable for repair, we will communicate that clearly.

Step 2: Repair Assessment

Step 3: Fabric Matching Determination

If fabric replacement is required, we evaluate matching options:

  • Fabric may be harvested from concealed areas, such as beneath seat cushions or from the outer back panel, to supplement visible sections.
  • If harvesting is not feasible, we source the closest available match in color, texture, and material. Exact matches are not guaranteed.

If broader sourcing is required, a showroom appointment is scheduled to review fabric options and determine the preferred course of action.

Step 3: Fabric Matching Determination

Step 4: Final Scope, Quote & Full Payment

Once the repair scope and fabric strategy are finalized, a formal quote is issued.

Full payment is required prior to scheduling and repair execution.

Repair projects are paid in full upfront due to their targeted and customized nature.

Step 4: Final Scope, Quote & Full Payment

Phase 2

Logistics & Intake

Step 5: Drop Off or Paid Pickup Arrangement

Clients may arrange their own drop off and pickup.

If pickup and delivery are requested, service is available at:

  • A base fee of $150
