The Challenge

University Retirement Community was undergoing a major renovation involving custom millwork and architectural seating. Woodsmiths contracted Artisan Interiors to fabricate oversized banquette seating featuring unusually large horizontal channel backs. The scale of the components created challenges involving weight, installation, structural stability, and precision fitting within enclosed millwork environments.

The Solution

Artisan Interiors developed a custom fabrication method that allowed each upholstered channel to be constructed individually before being mounted to a primary plywood backing system. This approach maintained consistent spacing while improving structural integrity and installation efficiency. The successful execution of the first phase resulted in Artisan Interiors being selected to fabricate two additional banquettes for a second phase of the project.
